At this time, families from four of the towns that are in our service region
that have fire and/or police departments that have completed the Autism and
Law Enforcement Education Coalition training, have been invited to participate
in a Community Awareness day at the fire station in their town.

Fire fighters, police, and rescue personnel are on hand to meet family members,
allowing people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families to become
familiar with seeing these first responders. There is also an opportunity to
explore emergency vehicles. Families are given social stories about first
responders to review with their children and a table is set up with activities
that reinforce the information they are receiving.

Community Autism Resources has enjoyed collaborating with the Autism and Law
Enforcement Education Coalition(ALEC) and the Fire/Police Department in these
towns to make this opportunity possible.
