Community Autism Resources would like to thank all of the individuals, families, teams and volunteers who attended our 13th Annual Hearts and Hands Walk/5K for Autism on Saturday, October 1st! Despite the weather, there were 516 people who participated in the walk, 29 people who participated in the 5K and 80 Volunteers! With the number of participants and organization that is required to host this event, it is extremely difficult to book venues, vendors and schedule volunteers for two separate dates. We appreciate your understanding that even when the weather doesn’t cooperate this event must be held rain or shine.
We are so grateful to have the many wonderful people who ‘teamed up’ to raise vital funding, and who believe it is important to raise money that will stay here in Southeastern Massachusetts to provide services and supports for children, teens and adults with ASD and their families, through Community Autism Resources. Did you know that the Hearts & Hands Walk/5K Run for Autism and Family Fun Day is our signature fundraiser? Although we are partially funded by DDS, we depend on our annual walk, and the 5K Run for the first time this year , to raise funds to continue to provide the FREE and vital services and supports to children, teens, adults and their families, as they face the everyday challenges of living with Autism Spectrum Disorders. All the games, activities, prizes and refreshments are FREE to you, as a thank you for your efforts in helping us take action and raise money for this event!
You made a difference for people living with Autism Spectrum Disorders by helping to raise $65,276.00 (our preliminary total) and we are still receiving donations and matching gifts!!
We ask all participants in the day’s events, including volunteers, to take a very brief survey about your walk/5K experience! We already have a working list of things that will be improved for next year, to make this event BIGGER and BETTER! Please forward the link to all of your family/friends/team members who attended the walk. To take this brief survey and help us make next year’s walk/5K an even greater experience, please visit: http://form.jotformpro.com/form/42645136794967

You made a difference for people living with Autism Spectrum Disorders!

Family/Friend Sponsored Program:
We were so thrilled with the response we received! We want to thank all of the families/friends for sharing your beautiful photos and words with us, to publish in our program!
Congratulations to our 2016 Volunteer of the Year, Glenn Masse!
We are so appreciative of Glenn’s unwavering support for the work we do! We were so proud to honor him as our Volunteer of the Year!
Glenn Masse has been volunteering for the Hearts and Hands Walk for Autism for over 5 years.
He originally heard about the walk while arranging for parent training through CAR for the Kennedy Donovan Center. He offered to volunteer on the spot and has been with us ever since!
He is one of the many people that we rely on every year to get the walk set up, run successfully and cleaned up and packed away. Glenn doesn’t need much instruction and is always great at finding what needs to be done and just doing it!
He is willing to complete any task that we ask and attend to any of the field day games (although you will usually find him at the basketball game with his buddies). Glenn not only volunteers for the day, but he also supports some of our young adults with ASD who volunteer for the day.
Many of the people who volunteer for the walk are family members or friends of staff, or have a personal connection to CAR in one way or another. Glenn just came out of the goodness of his heart and continues to do so year after year. When asked why he volunteers every year Glenn simply said “I look forward to spending time with the families and children each year, pursuing opportunities to have fun and laugh. I find it to be very enjoyable and fulfilling.” Thank you Glenn! We could do not this without dedicated volunteers like you every year.
Congratulations to our 2016 Sponsor of the Year,
Fall River National Little League!
Crystal Medeiros, CAR’s Development Coordinator, wrapped up her 7th Little League Baseball Season, with her dear family & friends from Fall River National Little League at Dumont Field! Each of the last 7 seasons, FRNLL has adopted Autism as their charity of choice, for the entire season!
FRNLL has hosted their annual Batting for a Cause Tournament, for the past 7 seasons with all of the proceeds from the tournament donated to CAR! In total, FRNLL has helped Crystal & her family raise over $50,000! Not only has FRNLL taken action, brought much needed Autism Awareness to their community (and surrounding cities/towns who join their tournament), and helped raise much needed funding, they have also sponsored our Hearts & Hands Walk/5K Run for Autism!
The hard work and the endless hours they put into this tournament each year, does NOT go unrecognized and we can't thank them enough for all that they do, ALL SEASON LONG!
Although they are a small little league, there is no doubt that they have BIG hearts! They have been absolutely wonderful to work with over the years and CAR is so grateful and honored to have such a wonderful and caring group to be a part of!
5K Race Results
For the 2nd year, we added a 5K to our existing walk! We want to thank everyone who participated!
